I have always been mesmerized by the sight of long hair. But I have seldom heard from others about the joys of TOUCH and SMELL. I recently hired a Mexican woman as my live-in housekeeper--Dolores has very thick, shiny, ankle-length hair. When I interviewed her, I was fascinated by large and shiny her bun was--I just had to find out whether it was all her hair, and it was! We both enjoy the frequent brushing, combing and braiding sessions. I love the feel and the fragrance of her hair, and she enjoys the attention. The first thing I do when I come home is bury my nose in her bun. I wash it no more than once every week or ten days to keep the fragrance as long as possible.

Just thought I would share these other sensory joys. By the way, I have now mastered putting her hair up in the perfect, glossy bun!

That's really neat that your housekeeper and You have a special bond with her hair. It's odd though that she is your housekeeper and you as the head of the household brush her hair. I guess that is great, but is there some kind of romance there?

Since Dolores wears her hair in a bun most of the time, you can accelerate her natural scent returning after shampoos by smelling the underside of her bun rather than the top. This means you have to loosen her bun at the bottom by temporarily removing some of the hair pins, so be careful. Just have her lean her head forward, or sit in

a chair so you can both be comforable. Her bun will naturally trap her natural oils, and persperation as well, to concentrate the scent. Also, using the pointy end of a comb to gently part her hair below the bun will allow you to get to her scalp dirctly where the scent is strongest. If you both like the shampoo experience, this will allow you to wash her more often--this is very sensual, and you should take every opportunity to enjoy it. My husband has the same issues that you do, and this works great for us.

Of course the next logical response would be:

When will we see your housekeeper on TLHS? She sounds like a perfect candidate for the Week's Lady.

Not only are you fortunate enough to be able to aford a housekeeper; but a lady who is willing to share her abundant

crowning glory, as well. I hope you consider yourself a lucky man, because you most certainly are!

Thanks for the replies to "Appealing to the Other Senses." Thought I would reply here to questions and give some additional info on Dolores, my long-haired live-in housekeeper. She is 35 years old (I'm 32, single), 5'3" tall (not including her bun), 165 lbs., and has been in the US for about 3 months. Her hair is dark brown, and VERY thick/straight/heavy/oily/glossy. She wears her large bun on top of her head, because it's too heavy to hand on the back. When tightly pulled up in a bun, her hair is so shiny I can almost see my reflection on the back of her head!

She comes from a very rural area of Mexico where indoor plumbing is unknown, which is why shampooing was so difficult and infrequent in Mexico, and then only with the help of family or friends (now me). In warm ewather, I shampoo her in the back yard with a garden hose--I have a privacy fence to prevent audiences and indecent exposure

calls. Ha! Until spring, I have to do it inside, which has been a BIG CHALLENGE, because whe won't use the shower (claustrophobic) or the bathtub (she's used to sponge baths)! So I now shampoo her in a large sink in the utility room--which is also where she takes her sponge baths (no carpet porblem). Shampooing her during sponge bath sessions works great because there's no concern about getting her clothes wet. But her hair is so long, it tills the sink, which slows the whole process down. Dolores would love more frequent shampoos, and I would do it more often if I could expedite the process.

Any shampoo technique ideas under these circumstances would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! I would also appreciate advice on how to make her hair even glossier, to give it a really "wet" look--should I use oils? If so, what kind?

Janet, thanks for the advice about smilling under her bun for quicker results. We tried it last night, and it was great! If I shampoo her more often, this will really help. I've also found that lots of brushing helps to stimulate her abundant natural oils, and it helps to work the fragrance more quickly into her bun and braids.

Thanks for the responses and any advice! I will submit some pictures, expecially of her bun--you won't believe how big it is!

Since I am single, "head of household" doesn't mean much. I brush, wash, braid, bun and smell Dolores' hair because we both enjoy it--she didn't get this kind of attention in Mexico. In fact, she kind of feels like this is part of her "compensation" now. She keeps a basket of combs, brushes, hair conditioners by my chair in the den so that it's very "convenient" for me to play with her hair. She even got me a book on braiding, which I am actively learning about, with the help of Dolores long hair. I admit, it's difficult to interact with her in these manners without building some "emotions" about it.

Thanks for shaing your wife's experience wih secret sniffers, Rick. I sit in an area of my office that is somewhat secluded from view. So it is very easy for guys to walk behind me and smell my bun without fear that someone will see. But I can always tell, and it has become a game with me. I like to see if I can get certain guys I'm talking with to sniff it by lowering my head to make it really easy. Since my bun stands up so high on the crown of my head (I wrap it in a very shiny tube, using lots of gel and shiner), it's really easy to literally stick it under there noses. Sometimes they get a bit carried away, and try to smell the back of my head under my bun. I always play like I don't notice so the game can continue. It's amusing to see how excited and distracted they get.

Happy bun-sniffing!

Wow! I'd love to be a fly on your laundry room wall when you shampoo Delores' hair. Please consider taking a complete sequence of pics from start to finish. You could easily take two rolls of film covering the entire process, from pre-shampoo bun to post-shampoo bun, with lots of shots of her bending over the laundry sink during both lathering and rinsing. Be sure to include some shots of her with her hair hanging forward to the floor right after rinsing, and also from behind after you comb her hair out when it's still wet so we can see how long it is. Taking a similar set of pictures in the spring when you can resume shampooing her outside would also be great-the sunlight

will really make her wet hair shine. Getting her to wear clothes for these shots will be a small sacrifice for her fans!

Mike, in the long-run, you need to get Dolores to use the shower! I don't see how you can keep up the pace of shampooing as frequently as she needs it, particularly when summer arrives and she will be perspiring heavily, to the point that her hair will have a very strong odor. In rural Mexico, this isn't a problem because everyone has that odor, and they just don't notice it anymore. Head lice are also more of a risk for women who have very long, thick hair-I would be surprised if you have not already had to deal with this when you first hired her. Delores' reluctance to use the shower or the bathtub is completely normal. I'm from Mexico, and I see it all the time. So a

little tough love is in order. She obviously feels comfortable with you, and you can encourage her in the right direction.

The approach that really works is to first have her stand outside the open shower stall, with her head and upper body in far enough to allow her head to be under the shower head. You can help to control the water, and to lather and rinse her hair, but with her actively helping as well. When she gets used to doing this after a few times, have her actually stand in the shower, with her head back rather than forward, but with the door still open so she doesn't feel closed in. You should still be there to help, but she should be doing most of the work. She will quickly get used to shampooing and bathing this way. Make sure her hair is completely dry before you put it up so her hair doesn't mildew and sour. If she air-dries it, loosely braid into two plaits so it doesn't get tangled. When the plaits feel dry, you can bun it as tightly as you like.

You can continue to have more intimate shampoo sessions, which both of you obviously like. I think that is wonderful. But getting her to be more self-reliant will help. And come summer, you will be able to enjoy the natural fragrance of her hair without worrying about real odor (and lice) problems.
